AF Payments Inc (AFPI), the company which launched the automatic fare collection system (AFCS) at the light rail network in Metro Manila and the beep™ card in 2015, was engaged by Marubeni-DMCI Consortium to install the AFCS component of the LRT 2 East Extension Project (L2EEP).
The L2EEP, launched by His Excellency President Rodrigo Duterte last July 1, 2021, features two brand new stations: Marikina and Antipolo to better serve the commuters based in Pasig, Marikina, Rizal province and nearby areas. The project is expected to serve an additional 80,000 passengers when LRT 2 resumes full operations.
AFPI was involved in the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and seamless integration of the AFCS set up at the two new stations with the AFCS infrastructure at the existing eleven stations at LRT 2. Commuters can use the same reloadable beep™ card when traveling to or from Marikina or Antipolo station to any of the existing stations at LRT 1, LRT 2 and MRT 3, as well as with the growing network of interoperable public transport options such as buses, ferry terminals and modern jeepneys nationwide.
