Newly-appointed Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime J. Bautista recommends improvements of the MRT-3 after riding incognito as a passenger last July 4.
In an effort “to experience first-hand the daily commute of passengers in one of the busiest rail lines in Metro Manila,” Secretary Bautista visited three MRT-3 stations and interacted with passengers from GMA-Kamuning Station to Taft Avenue Station.
In Secretary Bautista’s list of observations and recommendations given to Undersecretary for Rails Cesar Chavez and MRT-3 OIC-General Manager Ofelia Astrera, he mentioned the maintenance of clean restrooms with ample water supply; additional waiting seats for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women on the platform; accessibility of consumer welfare desks to all passengers; additional X-ray machines; need for a full ticket counter complement, availability of emergency medical technicians at all stations, enhancement of onboard announcements; and the promotion of stored value tickets like beep™ instead of single journey tickets to reduce lines.
AF Payments Inc (AFPI), the operator of beep™ cards, has been continually growing its network where beep™ can be used, along with other developments to better serve the commuting public such as convenient reloading areas, value-added features, after-sales service, and rewards systems.
